Was es bei einer Bachelorarbeit zu beachten gilt
Zur Bachelorarbeit
Im Bachelorstudium am Institut für Anglistik ist im Rahmen eines Seminars eine eigenständige schriftliche Arbeit abzufassen (§ 51 Abs. 1 Z 7 und § 80 Abs. 1 UG). Die Absicht, in diesem Seminar die Bachelorarbeit zu verfassen, ist der/dem Lehrveranstaltungsleiter/in im Verlauf des Seminars bekannt zu geben.
Die Bachelorarbeit ersetzt nicht die für den Abschluss des Seminars vorgesehene Seminararbeit. Die Bachelorarbeit wird mit je nach Studienplan vorgesehenen ECTS-Anrechnungspunkten (zusätzlich zu den ECTS-Anrechnungspunkten für das (Pro-)Seminar) bewertet.
Sie kann aus Literaturwissenschaft, Sprachwissenschaft oder Kulturwissenschaft (mit sprachwissenschaftlichen oder literaturwissenschaftlichen Grundlagen und Methoden) verfasst werden.
Die Arbeit sollte 12.000 bis 15.000 Wörter lang und in englischer Sprache verfasst sein. Die Studierenden erhalten für diese Arbeit 12 ECTS-Credits.
Alles rund um die Masterarbeit
Die Masterarbeit (30 ECTS-Anrechnungspunkte) wird im Schwerpunktfach des Instituts für Anglistik absolviert. Sie ist eine wissenschaftliche Arbeit, in der Studierende zeigen sollen, dass sie fähig sind, wissenschaftliche Themen selbstständig sowie inhaltlich und methodisch angemessen zu bearbeiten.
Das Thema der Arbeit soll im 3. Semester des Masterstudiums festgelegt werden. Dieses Thema muss so gestellt werden, dass ein Abschluss der Arbeit nach sechs Monaten möglich ist. Dabei soll ein Proposal für die Arbeit im 3. Semester verfasst und mit dem Betreuer/der Betreuerin der Arbeit besprochen werden. Die Arbeit selbst soll noch im 3. Semester begonnen und im 4. Semester abgeschlossen werden.
Die Arbeit wird vom Betreuer/von der Betreuerin begutachtet und benotet. Sie soll eine Länge von ca. 20.000 bis 25.000 Wörtern aufweisen und ist in englischer Sprache abzufassen. In durch die Themenstellung begründeten Fällen kann die Arbeit in Absprache mit dem Betreuer/der Betreuerin auch auf Deutsch abgefasst werden.

Zur Masterarbeit Joint Degree
Die Masterarbeit weist einen Umfang von 26 ECTS-Anrechnungspunkten auf. Die Masterarbeit dient dem Nachweis der Befähigung des selbständigen Studiums und der Recherche. Sie sollte auf Englisch geschrieben sein und 25.000 bis 35.000 Wörter umfassen. Die Masterarbeit muss eine Zusammenfassung (1000 Wörter) enthalten, die sowohl auf Englisch als auch in der Sprache der Universität der Zulassung gemäß den jeweils geltenden Statuten an den Partneruniversitäten abgefasst wird.
Studierende müssen das Thema ihrer Masterarbeit nach Absprache mit einem Betreuer bzw. einer Betreuerin am Ende des zweiten Semesters festlegen. Die Studierenden sind berechtigt, das Thema vorzuschlagen oder aus einer Anzahl von Vorschlägen des Betreuers oder der Betreuerin auszuwählen. Die Aufgabenstellung der Masterarbeit ist so zu wählen, dass für die Studierenden die Bearbeitung innerhalb von sechs Monaten möglich und zumutbar ist. Die Beurteilung der Masterarbeit erfolgt durch zwei Begutachterinnen bzw. Begutachter, von denen einer der Betreuer bzw. die Betreuerin sein sollte und der andere ein Mitglied des Lehrkörpers an einer Universität, an der die oder der Studierende nicht studiert hat.
Der/die Betreuer:in wird ein schriftliches Gutachten gemäß dem Benotungssystem an seiner/ihrer Universität verfassen. Der/die Zweitbegutachter:in stellt eine kurze Bewertung (etwa ein halbe Seite) bereit, welche besagt, ob die Masterarbeit positiv ist. Jede Ausnahme zu dieser Regelung wird dem/der Zweitbegutachter:in von dem/der Koordinator:in der Universität der Zulassung des/der Studierenden mitgeteilt.
