In June we completed a two-part workshop on the use of Artificial Intelligence for empirical research in linguistics. This ARQUS-funded twinning workshop between the Universities of Graz and Leipzig involved five students from each university and was organized by Univ.Prof. Gunther Kaltenböck (Graz) and Univ.Prof. Arne Lohmann (Leipzig).
The first part of the workshop took place from 2 to 4 April 2025 in Graz and focused on different empirical methods in linguistic research and a basic understanding of how LLMs (Large Language Models) can be used in linguistic research.
In the second part of the workshop, which took place from 10 to 12 June 2025 in Leipzig, the focus shifted to the use of python scripts for data extraction and data analysis with the statistics software R.
