A warm welcome to the Institute of English Studies!

Founded in 1893, the Department of English Studies at the University of Graz looks back on a long tradition of academic excellence. Our teaching and research cover the breadth of the study of English: from the earliest Medieval writings to contemporary literatures, through modern and historical linguistics, to the didactics of the English language and literature.

The Institute of English Studies in cooperation with the Institute of American Studies organises a number of degree programmes. These degree programmes are a  Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English and American Studies, a Joint Master's Degree in English and American Studies, a Bachelor and a Master in Teacher Training for Secondary Level General Education (Lehramt), and a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy).
