Mindful Repositioning as an Approach to Engagement with Multimodal Texts in the English Language Classroom
Mindful Repositioning is an application of Ellen Langer’s socio-cognitive concept of mindfulness. Encouraging students to really notice, resist automated responses and consider other points of view and perspectives has myriad benefits for learners. This presentation will briefly outline the basics of Langer's mindfulness and go on to illustrate via examples how Mindful Repositioning can challenge our thinking and encourage us and our students to be more engaged, creative and cognitively flexible.
