Professor Maria Löschnigg received the Pierre Savard Award of the International Council for Canadian Studies (ICCS) for her Introduction to the Canadian Short Story, published by Routledge (London, New York) in 2023. The annual award is given by the ICCS, which is the umbrella organisation for all Canadian Studies associations world-wide, to the best monograph in English or French in Canadian Studies. In his laudatory speech, Prof. Christoph Vatter, president of the Association for Canadian Studies in the German-Speaking Countries, emphasised Maria Löschnigg’s innovative and comprehensive approach to her subject, the Canadian short story. The award ceremony was held at York University in Toronto. It was presided by Prof. Jane Koustas, the current president of the ICCS, and was also attended by the Austrian Consul in Toronto, Dr Stephen Lautens.
